The photos are in!  Way to get out there and take pictures of strangers interacting!  Thanks to all who participated; you have until the end of Monday July 25th to cast your votes (via comments- just describe the photo you like and why you chose it).

  1. I'll be the first to cast my vote:

It was a tough decision, but I am going to vote for the photo of the guy with his head in the girl's lap. I like it because they are set up intimately and yet there is an element of non-interaction with the girl looking at something in her hand and the guy asleep or looking down. The photo is vivid and all the tones of the b/w look really nice.

I love everyone's photos (really! good job everyone!), but I also want to give honorable mentions to a couple other photos:

I like the huddle of boys photo-- it's a fun moment to have captured and the angle from above with the slight view of their faces gives me a sense of excitement and plotting, adding to the delight of the photo. I hesitated to cast my vote with this one because I'm not sure if I'm seeing the photographer's shadow in the photo; otherwise it's great!

I also like the handshake photo. It's total interaction and unique! My hesitation with it is that it's a little too overexposed and not quite sharp. I wish the bottom edges of the fingers weren't right at the edge of the picture, but I can't help but liking this photo!

  2. I agree with yours truly about the huddle photo - that's the one i'd vote for. my only worry is that i suspect that the shadow belongs to the photographer.

my second choice would probably be the guy helping the girl into the kayak. again, my only concern is that it looks as thought it may have been shot from a good distance away and cropped down. i feel like it might have been better if it was closer and could have captured more of her concern/worry about getting in the boat.

honorable mention also goes to the guy with the popsicle - because he looks weirdly pissed about it. i like the abiguity, but wonder if b&w and seeing more of his face might have been better.

    overall, though, all great shots!

  3. I vote for the one with the girl with the guy's head in her lap. It is the best to me. I like a lot of the other ones.

  4. are non submitters allowed to vote? if so my votes go to head in lap and then handshake as second.

  5. I guess my top favorite is the handshake: the interaction is left vague, leaving the viewer the opportunity to decide for himself what is occurring.

  6. My vote goes for #5, the moody interaction between a guy and girl. Although they are not conversing, a close tie exists between the two. Good job! I especially like the lighting and the mood of the interaction.

I also especially liked in photo #1 the way the setting is framed by the boats in the background, the way the boat in the foreground fills the pic, and the composition altogether. Thought it was excellent. I would really like to know how photographer #3 got above her/his subjects. Very intriguing little interaction. Unfortunately lighting was the one drawback.

  7. I wasn't able to participate on this assignment, but for my own two cents--the band of boys is my favorite. Honorable mention would go to the (winning) photo of the girl with guy in her lap and the orange popsicle men's club!

  8. :( I had thought the pics were due on Monday. That is the day I took my picture. I went to post it last night I realized I missed the deadline. Next time! Great pics.

  9. I'm so sorry. There was a lot of overall confusion about the deadline this time around. I hope that the regular deadline will keep that from happening in the future. I'd love to still see your photo.
